Report on Ecosystem Surveillance

The Ecosystem Science Council has launched a technical report on the need for a critical boost to our fragmented ecosystem monitoring efforts to implement a national system that tracks the health of our ecosystems and trends in biodiversity.

Recent ecosystem crises, including unprecedented bushfires in 5 states, major flooding events, and unprecedented droughts resulting from global warming, all in 2019, have made the report’s publication timely.

Without adequate monitoring of ecosystems, it is impossible to know the real impacts and the best approaches to recovery action.
